Senior Software Engineer - Play & Control
What does your next step sound like?
About us
Soundtrack is a B2B scale-up company providing music streaming services for businesses. We serve small customers like the café around the corner, and much bigger brands like Joe & the Juice, Toni & Guy and TAG Heuer. On the inside, we're a bunch of talented, motivated and humble designers, engineers and music experts. We believe in product-led growth, where the product is the primary driver of customer acquisition, conversion and expansion.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced backend engineer with a strong background in functional programming, for our Play & Control team.
You will play a key part in evolving and deploying our next-generation playback system, the backbone that ensures music plays seamlessly across platforms, devices, and integrations.
The team owns the playback experience across all of our platforms. We make the music flow, from the cloud to speakers, through our apps and partner integrations. Our technology powers playback for mobile and desktop clients, our own hardware, and various connected devices through SDKs and APIs. Everyone in the team works across the stack, to ensure a smooth and stable music experience everywhere.
You will be joining at an exciting time, our new playback architecture is being rolled out, and you’ll play a central role in shaping how it operates across all platforms.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and refine backend services that power music playback across diverse clients and environments
- Contribute to the rollout of our next-generation playback control architecture
- Collaborate with our partners (e.g., Sonos and other integrations)
- Develop our cloud-based audio streaming platform
- Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance in a distributed environment
- Influence a technical direction for systems written in Scala, Go, Rust, and C++
About You
Just like us, you love music. You're driven and entrepreneurial, but you know how to be a team player too. Regardless of roles, we're always looking to work with people who can adapt to constant change, prioritise what's important, stay humble, open, curious and with a passion for details.

- Solid experience with functional programming principles (preferably with Scala)
- Ability to design and implement scalable, cloud-native applications
- Professional experience with one or more of the following: Scala, Go, Rust, C++
- Experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes (preferably on Google Cloud, but not the main focus)
- A minset to care about deployment, monitoring, and operational stability of your services
Beneficial
- Experience in audio streaming, IoT, or hardware-integrated products
- Interest in music technology and playback systems
Employee Benefits
- We offer a flexible workplace with the possibility to work remotely
- Generous pension plan
- Yearly budget for health, wellness and personal development
- Laptop and mobile phone of your choice with included cellular subscription
- Regular social activities such as team events, meet ups, after works and off-sites
- Daily breakfast served at the office
